HOUSTON - A woman was arrested after a destructive drive through a southwest Houston neighborhood, police said.

Houston police said a woman in a white Toyota Corolla veered off of Braeswood Drive near South Gessner Drive just after midnight Monday.

They said she hit the sign to the Braes Hollow apartment complex, then took out some landscaping stones and hit a pedestrian.

The driver tried to keep going, according to police, but her car would not cooperate. It was disabled by the crash, stranding her in the apartment complex parking lot.

Officials said the driver was arrested, and now police are waiting for blood work to determine if she was impaired.

The pedestrian was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.  Investigators said she has a ruptured spleen, among other injuries.
