HPD: Driver of stolen car arrested after chase

HOUSTON - Houston police arrested a man after a chase and crash in southwest Houston Thursday afternoon.

According to police, when they ran the license plates on a driver's vehicle, the car came back as being stolen.

Officers said they tried to pull the driver over on Club Creek near Beechnut, but the man refused to stop.

The man lead officers on a chase, eventually slamming into a tree and utility line on Evesborough near South Course Drive, according to police.

A woman trying to cross the street at the time said she was almost hit.

"I heard the sirens but didn't know which way they were coming. I saw the black car coming," the woman said.

Police said the fleeing took off running, but officers eventually caught him. His name has not been released.
