HOUSTON - Houston police Chief Art Acevedo voiced his concerns and warned Houstonians to be aware following the deadly package bombings in Austin.
Acevedo said he's been on the phone throughout the day with Austin's police chief for updates in the investigation.
He said there is no immediate threat in Houston, but still wants people to be aware of their surroundings and keep a close eye on what is being delivered to their homes.
"You just got to pay attention, be situationally aware and again if something doesn't seem right, or a package seems suspicious, there's something you didn't order and you're not sure about it, give us a call so we can come out and check it out," Acevedo said at Monday's press conference.
He said the goal is not to scare anyone -- rather to make sure people are paying attention to what's going on. Acevedo said he talked to law enforcement members nationwide, including the New York Police Department on Monday, as the investigation continues.
"We've been in touch with NYPD. They called me. From that shop, law enforcement throughout the country, when these things happen, talk to one another," Acevedo said. "We reach out to one another. We try to look at and provide one another with any intelligence we possibly can in terms of any some similarities between the three incidents in the City of Austin."
