HPD: 4 students under the influence at local school

HOUSTON - Police are looking into an incident at a local middle school campus after HPD received a call about four students who showed up to class "under the influence."

The call came in at around 11:30 a.m. from the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success Primary Academy at 2950 Broadway Street. Three police cars and an ambulance were on campus after the call came in. The rumors started swirling.

"I heard they got drunk and they weren't supposed to be doing what they were doing," said  Jennifer Castro. "The teacher had them to walk in a line and they couldn't walk."

School administrators didn't want to speak to Local 2 about the incident on camera, but a school intervention specialist says a teacher noticed a 7th grade student who was throwing up, then notified school leaders. That student was taken to the hospital. We do not know the student's condition.

The specialist would not confirm that student was under the influence.

The incident is alarming to family members, who are especially fearful of what the younger students in the school might think.

"They see everything and then they're going to be like, 'Oh look that's cool. We should do that!'" says Rosalinda Castro, who has younger siblings who attend the school.

No word yet on whether or not the students were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
