HPD: 2 electrocuted after equipment contacts electrical lines

HOUSTON - Houston police say two men are dead after a piece of equipment they were near came in contact with an electrical line in an oil field in southwest Houston.

Just before 3 p.m. Monday, two Maverick Drilling employees working on the ground near some type of oil field equipment that came into contact with a power line near Blueridge Road and McHard in southwest Houston.

The two employees were electrocuted and firefighters say other employees performed CPR.

"There were a lot of workers in the field they were all obviously distraught and doing what they could to help," said Bruce Greenberg, with the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters showed up and rushed the men to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, but their injuries were so severe that Houston police say both men died.

Maverick Drilling has not released a statement, saying they are waiting to gather more information and will issue a release at a later time.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
