Houston soldier killed in helicopter crash

HOUSTON - Two soldiers from Texas were killed when their helicopter crashed in Afghanistan.

Army Chief Warrant Officer Jose Montenegro, 31, and Army Chief Warrant Officer Thalia Ramirez were killed when their OH-58D Kiowa Warrior went down in Logar Province, Afghanistan.

Both were nearing the end of their year-long deployment in Afghanistan.

Montenegro was from the Houston area. He is survived by his mother and sister. This was his third deployment.

Ramirez was from San Antonio. She was originally from Kenya and enlisted into the U.S. Army in 2003. Ramirez leaves behind her husband, mother and father.

The cause of the  helicopter crash is under investigation.
