Houston sees coldest morning ever in May

Record low at Bush Airport Saturday morning

Headline Goes Here

HOUSTON - We made Houston weather history today, breaking the all-time record low for this day and for the entire month of May. Bush Airport plunged to 42 degrees, shattering the old record low of 44 degrees set back in 1978 for May 4th and for the month of May. This makes this morning's record low the coldest morning we have ever seen in Houston since we started recording weather data back in 1889. So, this morning's low temperature was the coldest in 124 years! Incredible!

GalvestonĀ came close to the record low, dipping down to 53 degrees this morning. The record low for this day is 52 set back in 1954.

College Station tied a record low set on this day of 42 in 1954.

Radiational cooling helped temperatures plummet overnight and into this morning. Clear skies and calm conditions caused morning lows to drop, especially after Thursday's strong cold front.

Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 70s with sunny skies and southwesterly winds at 10-15 mph. The normal high for this time of year is 84.
