HOUSTON - Police were investigating a robbery that took place Friday morning at a cashing store in northeast Houston.

The robbery happened around 8:40 a.m. Friday at the Ace Cash Express Checking cashing store at 2609 Fulton.

According to Houston police, the suspect broke into a vacant store front, then dug a hole from the bottom of the wall and crawled into the store.

The suspect was able to steal only a handful of money orders, said police.

Police said an employee of the store arrived and saw dirt from the hole the suspect dug on the floor, but didn't think anything of it until she saw the suspect's feet crawling back through the hole.

The employee called 911 and Houston police spotted the suspect running on foot from the store. A perimeter was then set up in the area to try and catch the suspect.

Houston police called for a K9 unit and chopper to try and search the area. After an hour of searching, police said an arrest was never made.

If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to call the Houston Police Department at 713-884-3131.
