Houston mom among injured in College Station shooting

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - A Houston mother was among the victims wounded in a shootout in College Station near the Texas A&M campus Monday.

Barbara Holdsworth, 51, was helping her daughter move when bullets rang out. Holdsworth lives in the Memorial area.

Sources told KPRC Local 2 that Holdsworth underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to her lungs. She was hospitalized in intensive care Tuesday.

Chris Northcliff, a 51-year-old College Station resident and father of two, was one of three who died in the shootout.

Police spokeswoman Rhonda Seaton said Northcliff and Holdsworth were outside the home when they were shot.

"He was just checking out some properties he managed and he was just one of the innocent bystanders who got shot," said Jeremy Vanecek, a friend.

Holdsworth's daughter, Sara, is the president of the Tri Delta sorority at Texas A&M.

"We are devastated to learn of our alumna member's involvement in this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her, her family, and all members of Gamma Alpha Chapter at Texas A&M as we hope for her speedy recovery," a statement from the national Tri Delta organization read.

Holdsworth was in her car when the shots were fired. Her daughter was not in the car at the time. Family friends said Sara Holdsworth had just walked into the sorority house to get something when bullets started flying.

Barbara Holdsworth is divorced and works as a real estate agent.

"We're praying for them," said Frank Reisinger.

Reisinger is Barbara Holdsworth's next door neighbor. He said that while he doesn't know her personally, he still feels bad. He said the shooting has changed the way he looks at his life and the people in it.

"It makes you wonder, 'Can I even go to Randalls and be safe in the parking lot, or is some idiot going to come by with a shotgun and start blowing people away?" Reisinger said.

Police said Thomas Alton Caffall, 35, opened fire on Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann just after noon as Bachmann brought him an eviction notice. Both men were later pronounced dead at a hospital.
