Houston-based recycling company claims Turner reneged on deal

HOUSTON – The founder of a Houston-based recycling company is claiming Mayor Sylvester Turner reneged on a deal with his company when choosing a new recycling provider for the city.

George Gitschel, the founder of EcoHub LLC, held a news conference Wednesday, where he addressed his claims.

Turner announced last week that he had selected FCC Environmental LLC to provide recycling services to the city. The deal still needs approval from City Council before it becomes official.

Gitschel said a deal with his company would have saved Houstonians as much as $40 million a year.

Turner said his deal will save $1.3 million per year over the current rate.
