Houston area man's toolbox stolen during Astros celebration

HOUSTON – After the Astros’ giant celebration Friday afternoon, Mario Salazar went back to his truck to find his giant toolbox missing.

Someone stole it out of the back of the truck bed. It was parked just north of downtown Houston.

Salazar said, “It was strapped down with a strap plus it was chained with a chain. They had to use a bolt cutter to cut the chain apart so they could take it off.”

All Salazar has left are the cut chain links in the back of his truck. He said there were thousands of dollars worth of tools inside the box. They tools were collected over the decades.

“I had two sets of tools in there. Two different sets. I had a floor jack. I had various other tools. And an expensive battery charger and other stuff in there,” Salazar said.

While Salazar and his daughter waited for police, they made a discovery. Someone left behind a note saying he took pictures of two men taking the toolbox out of the back of his truck near Burnett Street Park.

“We were all excited," said his daughter, Theresa Martinez. "Then we came back and we were just bummed. The whole toolbox and he was like that’s all my tools. Dad’s the one who will stop for anybody on the side of the road who needs something.”
