Patrol cars hit while blocking traffic for separate crash on Southwest Freeway

Two Houston Police patrol cars were hit while responding to a crash involving a horse trailer on the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway Sunday morning.

According to police, an alleged drunk driver driving a minivan slammed into a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer of miniature horses near Beechnut Street around 12:13 a.m.

Houston police dispatchers tell us three horses were killed.

The other horses onboard the trailer was taken by the Harris County Livestock Unit, police say.

Police say, the driver of the minivan was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

There, the driver will be tested for possible intoxication.

Police say the driver of the truck was not injured.

While officers were directing traffic on the highway at Hillcroft Avenue police say two patrol cars were hit around 5:00 a.m. by an alleged drunk driver in a pickup truck.

It’s unknown if any officers were injured in the crash.

The pickup truck driver will be tested for intoxication according to police.
