Homeowner chases down former restoration employees accused of stealing from home

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Two former restoration employees are in custody after Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputies said the homeowner caught one of the suspects attempting to take an item from the homeowner's Sienna Plantation garage.

The men were supposed to be handing out company brochures for Quick Relief Restoration, a company aiming to help those recovering from the impact of Hurricane Harvey.

"It seemed like forever," said homeowner Matt Buschardt.

Buschardt made what was supposed to be a quick stop home Thursday morning, entering his home through his garage.

"I had just came in to put my dog away, get gas cans and go back to the gas station," said Buschard.

However, what he saw made him scream in anger. There was a stranger, holding a Yeti cooler that was once sitting in his garage.

"I walked out the door and my truck was scooted over a little bit, and I see him in the neighbors yard, running off with my cooler. There was a getaway truck right next door," said Buschard.

The truck's logo read "Quick Relief Restoration," a company advertising 24/7 service to those recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Investigators say 19-year-old Nathanial Bollom was driving. The man on foot was 19-year-old Raymundo Chacon. Buschardt ran after him.

"He ran back into the neighborhood, ran multiple fences and went back into the woods. I was a little bit nervous because it was just he and I and there was nobody back there," said Buschardt.

In the woods near his home, he said he chased the suspect for nearly 3 miles, while calling 911 for help.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office responded.

"When [the suspect] saw the sheriff, he turned around, and at that point I grabbed him by the neck and put him down," said Buschardt.

Investigators told Buschardt that the truck was stopped a mile from his home. Bollom and Chacon were arrested for burglary of habitation. Both men were reportedly wearing company shirts. Quick Relief Restoration owner, Richard Rucker, told KPRC that the teens had contacted his business asking for work. They were hired. The teens were supposed to be handing out company brochures.

Richard Rucker, owner of Quick Relief Restoration released the following statement:

"First, let me apologize from everyone at Quick Relief Restoration for this horrible event. Quick Relief Restoration was notified at approximately 11:30 a.m. today that our company truck had been impounded and the 2-drivers involved in a crime.

"At this time, we are still gathering information from Fort Bend County and only know that it involved two young men that were subcontract laborers taking property from a garage in Sienna Plantation. The two subcontract laborers were hired only to pass out brochures for our company. We ABSOLUTELY do not advocate this type of behavior and they are not only terminated, but Quick Relief Restoration has been in touch with their legal team and will be pursuing any legal action allowed against these men. We are a local family owned business and pride ourselves in our work and employees. We are extremely upset over this and will do whatever is necessary to rectify this situation with the homeowners.

"Quick Relief Restoration has reached out to the homeowner's and offered our deepest apologies. We hope to hear back from them and do whatever is necessary to rectify this unfortunate situation. We absolutely will not stand for this behavior or work ethics from our employees, subcontract laborers or anyone associated with the Quick Relief Restoration name.

"Again, we are deeply sorry for this incident and hope that these two men are held accountable and Quick Relief Restoration intends to work with the homeowners to see that these two men are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"As of 5:12 (p.m.)it is my knowledge that these two men have been booked and charged with Burglary of Habitation. Quick Relief Restoration will be cooperating fully with the homeowners and local authority to see that justice is served and they are held accountable for their actions."

Buschardt said he hopes this does not happen to anyone else.

"There's lots of crooks and criminals out there, trying to take advantage of people, and it's so sad. People that are already down on their luck don't deserve that," said Buschardt.
