Homeless community concerned about encampment cleaning in Midtown

HOUSTON – The homeless community living in an area in Midtown is concerned after being asked by the city to move from the area so it can be cleaned.

The area is near Wheeler Avenue and Caroline Street.

The chief medical officer of the city declared the area to be a public health emergency.

Crews are going to spend Thursday cleaning, and they have asked those who are homeless to leave.

Local activists said the homeless community is worried about their possessions and wonder whether they can return to the area.

City officials said the homeless can return to the area after the cleaning is finished.
