HOUSTON - A victim of a hit-and-run chased the suspect until police arrived, officials said Thursday.
Houston police said a drunk driver ran into the back of a car on Scott Street near the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Two Texas Southern University students were inside the car that was hit and followed the suspect, who got on and off the Gulf Freeway several times and sped through some neighborhoods, officials said.
The chase lasted about 30 minutes. It ended when the driver got trapped on a dead-end street on Val Verde near Chimney Rock and drove on grass to try and escape, but the victim blocked him in, police said.
The suspect got out of his SUV and ran, followed by the victim. Houston police arrived and arrested the suspect.
Officials said the victims were on the phone with 911 during the chase.
Investigators said the suspect, Robert Miller, has been charged with driving while intoxicated. Police said this is the third time he has faced that charge.
