HOUSTON - Police are searching for a driver who sent a woman to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in northwest Houston.

Investigators said a mother and her 51-year-old daughter were standing on the sidewalk in front of Michoacan's restaurant in northwest Houston when a large, white SUV slammed into the daughter.

It's a crash Houston Police said could have been avoided.

"A white SUV parked in front of the them accelerated and ended up crushing the 51 year old between the vehicle and the wall," said Fabio Tapia with the Houston Police Department.

Police said they're still trying to put the details together.

"Witnesses at the scene observed a Hispanic female crawl into the driver side while it was occupied by a Hispanic male. At this point it's not certain whether the male or the female hit the accelerator," said Tapia.

There is also some damage to the restaurant building because of the crash.

Investigators said the driver of the SUV took off without helping the woman.

Paramedics showed up a few minutes later and rushed the woman to the hospital with a possible broken leg.

Detectives are searching for the driver who left the scene as well as the female passenger who was with him at the time.

If you know anything, you're asked to give police a call.
