Historic WWII tank delivered to Texas A&M University for Veteran's Day

A Piece of World War II history was delivered to Texas A&M University on Saturday.

The 32 ton fully restored Sherman tank was tough to miss and stopped many in their tracks on their way to the stadium.

“It’s pretty amazing," Arron Glick said. “I didn’t know anything like this still existed.”

Houston Attorney Tony Buzbee moved the tank from his front yard in River Oaks and donated it to alma mater.

Buzbee, a Marine veteran and former Commander of the Corps of Cadets at A&M, said the piece holds great significance and he wanted it to be in a special place.

“The tank has come a long way. It started in the U.S. and then it went to England, France and Berlin and then to Texas. Having it here feels right," Buzbee said.

Buzbee said he hopes many who visit College Station will take time to pause and reflect on the historical context of the tank on Veteran’s Day and every day.

“We are so divided in this country and this is from a time when our country was united," said Buzbee.

“It’s a symbol of what people are willing to go off campuses, like this, and all over Texas to go around the world to defend the freedoms and liberties we so enjoy," said retired military officer Colonel Michael Lee Lanning.
