HFD contains abandoned golf course grass fire in SW Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston Fire Department and other agencies battled a grass fire Thursday on an abandoned golf course, according to authorities.

HFD said the fire was contained around 4 p.m.

Firefighters started working around 12:30 p.m. to control the fire behind apartments at 9400 Coventry Square Drive near Bissonnet in southwest Houston.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities said over 100 acres were affected by the fire.

Firefighters used drones to survey the incident, according to the department.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
