HCSO: Boy burned playing with rubbing alcohol

More than 50 percent of his body burned

NORTH HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - An 11-year-old boy is in stable condition at Shriners Hospital after he is severely burned.

Harris County Sheriff's investigators said the boy and three other kids were using rubbing alcohol to set paper and pieces of trash on fire when the boy was burned.

The boy suffered second degree burns on more than 50 percent of his body.

The incident happened in the 1500 block of Sandydale in North Harris County across the street from a school, where neighbors said a football game was taking place.

"One of the parents who was across the street at the football function actually screamed and ran into the little boy's house," said neighbor Carmen Arzapala. "She started saying, 'your son is on fire!' They were trying to roll him on the floor and put the fire out."

Arzapala told KPRC Local 2 she saw the boy being loaded into the back of the ambulance and that his burns appeared to be from the neck down.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the incident remains under investigation and they continue to question the other three kids who were involved.
