Hazmat crews called to 2-alarm fire

Warehouse on Brittmore Park near Ashley Court catches fire

HOUSTON – Hazmat crews battled a two-alarm blaze at a manufacturing plant in northwest Harris County that became engulfed in flames around 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

The fire is in a warehouse at the Rilco Manufacturing Company, 11435 Brittmore Park Drive, and the concern was that chemicals may be burning inside the building.

"At one point it was thick smoke coming through, we couldn't even see the building right in front of us. It was really, really bad," said witness Trish Coyne.

Rilco's website states that it manufactures pipe supports and components.

Local 2 reported that one worker was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Pollution Control Services were also on the scene monitoring air quality.

Businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire and arson investigators said the fire may have started with an electrical problem.
