Hair, cash stolen from beauty store in SW Houston

HOUSTON - Police are reviewing surveillance video of a beauty store smash-and-grab burglary in which thousands of dollars of merchandise was stolen to try to identify the suspects.

Authorities say the men went inside Beauty Empire on Westheimer Road and Shadowbriar DriveĀ  and took the cash register and thousands of dollars worth of hair extensions in a matter of minutes.

In surveillance video obtained by Local 2, a white minivan can be seen pulling up at around 3 a.m. Wednesday. The van then backs up and several men break out a crowbar to pop the lock on the store door. Once the alarm sounds, they smash that too.

It's clear the criminals knew where to go inside. Holes on the shelves show they took handfuls of the more expensive merchandise, new human hair extensions.

One guy goes in and out several times to try and collect as much as he can in a short amount of time. Then they grab the cash register and vanish.

Police say the whole trip took around four minutes.

"Suspects had already left, when reviewing the video surveillance for suspects got out of a white van and went inside the store stole the cash register and a large amount of human hair," said Larry Crowsen with the Houston Police Department.

The family who runs the business is still trying to determine exactly how much the criminals got away with. The price listed on the wall indicates each piece is at least a couple hundred dollars.

Police say these pieces will typically be resold illegally, but that's what their investigation unit will review now.

The business owners say they're now relying on insurance to cover the cost of the damage.
