Grass fire nears homes in Westchase area of Houston

HOUSTON – A grass fire on Wednesday produced thick smoke as it got dangerously close to homes in the Westchase area of west Houston.

The fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of the Westpark Tollway and Beltway 8.

A Houston TranStar camera showed the smoke was being blown over the tollway.

Video from Sky 2 showed the fire was out by 2:05 p.m.

Firefighters were busy spraying water on a fence line that lined the back of the neighborhood near a power line right-of-way.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear what started the blaze.
