Graduate surprises grandmother in hospital

HOUSTON - Family is a big part of high school graduation. When Taylor Thompson found out her grandmother couldn't make the trip, she figured why not come to Houston.

A hospital bed is the last place Sharon Thompson wanted to be on her granddaughter's graduation night.

The 70-year-old had brain surgery yesterday at Houston Methodist and underwent a bone marrow transplant for leukemia in April. This made travelling to Cody, Wyoming to see Taylor get her high school diploma was out of the question.

A live feed has been set up so she can watch it on the Internet. What Sharon doesn't know is that Taylor, 16, dithced the ceremony and decided to fly to Houston to surprise her in the hospital.

"I'm thrilled," Taylor said. "I almost started crying on the way over here."

Right as her name was called, in walks Taylor, in her cap and gown.

Taylor's extended family had no idea this was happening and they flew from out of state to Wyoming to see her graduate. But Taylor has a cousin who is also graduating, so not all is lost for them.
