GALVESTON, Texas - A 5-year-old girl is safe after she managed to leave school unnoticed and walk home in the rain.

Galveston ISD tells Local 2 the Coastal Village Elementary School kindergarten student slipped out of a cafeteria door at lunchtime.

The girl told police she went home to get a "Dora the Explorer" calendar because her class had been talking about Dora.

The campus was put on lockdown as staff searched for the girl.

The principal walked to the girl's house about a half-block away and found her.

Galveston ISD police are reviewing security measures.
