HOUSTON - A sixth grader's grandmother said her granddaughter was raped while at the Food Town on Wilcrest and Briar Forest in southwest Houston at about noon on Saturday, March 17.

The girl said a man talked to her outside the store and followed her inside the store from aisle to aisle.

"She went to get her some water and when she went to get water and he followed her and the water is by the restrooms and he pulled her in the restroom and put her in a stall with him and told her to pull down her pants," the girl's grandmother said.

She said the man then sexually assaulted the 12-year-old girl. The grandmother said someone came into the restroom, but the man told the girl to be quiet.

"He jumped up on the seat. The rim of the seat and waited for the people to leave. Then he told her to go out and see if they had left. That's when she ran away," the grandmother said.

Eventually she said they left the bathroom and the store. The grandmother said the man tried to get the little girl to go back to an apartment but instead she ran home.

Food Town's manager on duty confirmed that Houston Police came to look at the store's surveillance video. The grandmother said it showed a man in his late 20s or early 30s following her granddaughter around the store.

Houston police are investigating.
