Galveston gets ready for Mardi Gras

GALVESTON, Texas - Mardis Gras preparations are under way in Galveston.

The fine group of the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius is putting on the final touches to their eight special floats.  It's a labor of love.

Krewe vice president Ron Dyda said the members were restoring an old float.

"Had just been tore down two years ago and completely rebuilt from the frame up," Dyda said.

Parade-goers will be able to see the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius' float in the parade at noon Saturday and on Fat Tuesday.

More than 150 members put together the floats for Galveston's Mardi Gras celebration.

"We expect between 250,000 and 300,000 over the course of both weekends on the Island," said Erin Dhonau of Yaga's Entertainment.

Mardi Gras Galveston runs Feb. 1 through 12.
