Friends, family search for answers after funeral for victim of quadruple murder-suicide

HOUSTON – Family and friends of a man who was killed in a quadruple murder-suicide buried him Saturday, hoping for answers as to what led to his killing.

Jocheralline Murphy, 42, was shot and killed by his girlfriend on April 7.

The girlfriend, identified as Dakita Holmes, 29, killed Murphy, her mother, sister, and mother's boyfriend, before turning the gun on herself, according to Houston Police.

"He was just a great guy. One of my best friends," said Earlis Thompson, a friend of Murphy.

Earlis Thompson spoke with KPRC2 Saturday. Thompson said little was known about Holmes and her relationship with Murphy.

"I just know he recently met her, like, a few weeks ago. He only knew her for a few weeks," Thompson said.

Houston police have said little about a motive for the shooting spree. Friends told KPRC2 on the day of the shootings that Holmes had been depressed, but they, too, were surprised to learn what Holmes had done.

"We need answers. We need some kind of answers to come out," Thompson said.

Thompson said Murphy was well-liked among family and friends. He enjoyed music and recorded some of his own work as a rapper.

"Everywhere we'd go, everybody loved him," Thompson said.

Thompson told KPRC2 he wanted to share Murphy's story as investigators work to determine why Holmes killed him and the others before taking her own life.
