Freebie Friday: Spring break fun

HOUSTON - It's a spring forward start to spring break, and Galveston is offering free fun to get you down to the island.

ArtWalk will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Galveston's historic district. The event is free for the entire family.

Also, Saturday night, there will be live free concerts in downtown Galveston's Saengerfest Park. All bands perform from 6 to 9 p.m. at the park located at the corner of The Strand and 23rd Street.

At the far eastern tip of the island, there will be live music on East Beach Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., and also Sunday, Stewart Beach will host the Gulf Coast Volleyball Season opener with free admission.

Discovery Green in downtown Houston will have lots of free spring break fun starting with the Funomental Family Festival all day Saturday, with rides and music.

Pets take over Discovery Green on Sunday for the Mix 96.5 Pet-A-Palooza. The free festival is filled with vendors, demonstrations and ends with an Andy Grammer concert.

The Museum of Fine Arts will offer free admission on Thursday.

The Children's Museum of Houston will have extended hours during spring break and a free family fun night Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Health Museum will hold a free spring break brain night for kids Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority will hold a free health fair Saturday at the Sunnyside Multi-Service Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Some of vendors, including Walgreens, will be doing health screenings. My Fit Foods will do a food demonstration and 24 Hour Fitness will be doing BMI and body fat screenings. The event is free and open to the public.

Sam's Club will be offering free health screenings, including blood tests for the 20 most common allergens, at all the Sam's stores with a pharmacy.
