HOUSTON - The kids are out of school and many of us have out-of-town guests to entertain, so we're checking out stops you can make around town without breaking the bank.

In Galveston at Moody Gardens Festival of Lights, if you buy a ticket tonight, you get one free with a non-perishable food item. Donations will go to the Galveston County Food Bank. The offer is for the Festival of Lights. Other exhibits will cost you extra.

If you get an e-reader for Christmas that you're not quite sure how to use, you can head over to the Bellaire City Library on Dec. 27 for a free tutorial on downloading ebooks. The session is from 5 to 7 p.m.

You can get into the Museum of Fine Arts for free all day next Thursday, courtesy of Shell.

There will also be a free screening of the animated movie Eleanor's Secret at 2 p.m. next Thursday and Friday at the museum.

Downtown Houston will be the spot to ring in 2013. There will be fireworks and special video projections on Houston buildings.

The lawn at Discovery Green will be turned into a disco with free entertainment by KC and The Sunshine Band.

If you can't quite make it until midnight, there will be two countdowns at Discovery Green. The first celebration will happen at 9pm complete with a kids confetti countdown.

Then at midnight, the real celebration with fireworks.

If you any have energy left on New Years Day, there's free admission to the Houston Zoo from 2 to 5 p.m. Enjoy the holidays.
