HOUSTON - Former President George H.W. Bush doesn't turn 90 until June 12 but that didn't stop him, along with family and friends, from celebrating Monday night in southwest Houston.

The night of celebration began with a group photo of Bush with the staff of the Palm Restaurant on Westheimer.

"We're going to have a lot of good food," said restaurant owner Wally Ganzi. "We have a lot of special wines that we ordered from Italy and a few other places that I know the president likes. And it's his friends. It's their party."

This was the second time our Local 2 cameras were able to catch Bush in public in less than a week. Last week he was at the airport named in his honor to welcome our current president and first lady to Houston for their two-day trip in Texas.

Leading the list of attendees of course was former first lady Barbara Bush. Around 50 or more guests turned out as well to say an early "Happy Birthday" to a former president so many hold dear to their hearts.

"To be able to give him my restaurant tonight for he and his friends and family is one of the great honors of my life," said Ganzi.

The former first lady will turn 89 on June 8. The Bush family has often celebrated their birthdays and other occasions at their family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
