Ricardo Martinez, 30, accepted the prison term in a plea deal Thursday in the 290th District Court.

The punishment was the maximum amount prosecutors could have sought.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Martinez offered vocal lessons to the teen from October 2012 until June 2013.

The girl's mother discovered that her daughter and Martinez were communicating by text messages and filed a police report, the affidavit said. The mother later found out the two were having sex, sometimes at the Helotes home of Martinez's family without his parents' knowledge, the affidavit said. According to the affidavit, nothing illegal happened at the school.

Martinez was eventually fired from the school.
