SUMPTER COUNTY, Fla. – There's been another alligator attack in Florida.
Authorities said a 58-year-old man found the gator on his property and shot it.
When he moved closer to make sure the alligator was dead, the 8 and a half foot, 300 pound reptile lunged at him, biting him in the right leg.
The 58-year-old man was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.
"We don't want these things to happen to..... Alligator bites are a very rare occurrence and we want to know what happened. How did this take place," Chad Weber of the Florida Wildlife Commission said.
The alligator was euthanized by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission gator trapper.
