First meeting held since Texas City commissioner was charged in deadly crash

TEXAS CITY, Texas – Dee Ann Haney, commissioner-at-large, was not present at a meeting Wednesday.

During the meeting, her name was not mentioned by any of the commissioners who were present.

Haney faces two counts of intoxicated manslaughter.

She is accused of killing Duoc Van Le, 59, and Le's son -- 32-year-old Hon Le.

Haney is accused of sideswiping the Les near the Galveston Causeway Bridge.

Court documents say the Les had pulled over to secure plexiglass in the bed of their truck.

Haney was arrested and her bond was set at $100,000.

She bonded out Monday.

Wednesday's commissioners meeting made no mention of Haney.

Instead, the city's mayor pro tempore read a statement on behalf of Texas City Mayor Matthew Doyle -- who is out of town -- according to the mayor's office.

There was one mention of Haney during the meeting.

It came from a resident during the meeting's public comment period.

That resident said Haney should not resign.
