Man who started fire in Houston nightclub identified, police say

HOUSTON – A man has been identified after being caught on surveillance video starting a fire inside a Houston nightclub on Aug. 3.

The incident happened in the 6100 block of Wilcrest Drive about 1:15 a.m.

According to investigators, the club closed for the night when someone stole a meter and cut the electricity to the building. 

Houston Arson Bureau officials said the man broke into the closed nightclub and started the fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and no other injuries reported.

There was an extensive amount of damage to the building.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man with a dark goatee, between 5 feet and 9 inches and 6 feet and 1 inch tall, and weighing about 190 to 200 pounds. The man had a tattoo below his elbow and another on his right side of his neck.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the arsonist.
