MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - A man is claiming self-defense after a crowbar beating that left one man dead Tuesday night along a Montgomery County road, according to deputies.

Anthony Dwayne Rideau is accused of murder and aggravated assault.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the 41-year old told deputies two men, a father and son, blocked the road along Farm-to-Market 1488 and Lakeshore Drive around 8:30 p.m. and verbally attacked him for driving too fast.

"When deputies arrived, they discovered that there were two pedestrians that got into an altercation with a male that was driving a vehicle," said Lt Brady Fitzgerald with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.  He said, "The male stopped the vehicle. There was a physical altercation between the three."

The man said he grabbed a crowbar to defend himself during the attack, according to deputies.

"When I got up there, I thought they done killed each other," said neighbor, Clint Cook.  He told KPRC 2, "I thought they done got into a fight and maybe stabbed each other."

Cook said his son called him after he saw Aaron McMahon in the middle of the street.  Cook said he saw the two McMahons fighting each other, earlier in the day, just down the street at a popular fishing spot in the Woodland Lakes Subdivision on East Lake Shore Drive near FM 1488 in Magnolia.

"That young guy...with no shirt...he was just looking to fight anybody.  I guess he was in the heat of the moment with his dad." Cook said.

Officials said both men were taken to an area hospital. Aaron McMahon, 31, was pronounced dead at the hospital. His father, Michael McMahon, 58, was seriously injured.

Rideau was arrested and charged with Aaron McMahon's murder and the aggravated assault of Michael McMahon. His bond was set at $300,000.
