HIGHLANDS - Deputies are investigating the death of a father was found shot to death in a ditch.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting call at St. Charles and Crosby Lynchburg around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived, investigators said they found 47-year-old Earl Green Jr.'s body next to his Jeep with gunshot wounds to his chest.

"I still can't believe it, even though I know that he is over there," said Jamecia Goins, the victim's niece. "It is just a hard pill to swallow."

Family members said they can not think of any reason someone would want to kill Green.

"We have been married 11 years," said Simone Green, the victim's wife. "I don't know who would want to hurt him."

"It is horrible," said Alicia Young, the victim's sister-in-law. "There is nothing he couldĀ have done to deserve [something] like this, nothing."

Green leaves behind a wife and six children, ranging in ages 14 to 26.

"It is heartbreaking, you would never expect this. He had a really great day with his grandbabies, so it is just really shocking," said Young.

Investigators said they tested people's hands at the scene for gunpowder residue and took others in for questioning.

So far no suspects have been named.
