Boy killed, 4 injured in northeast Houston crash

HOUSTON – A 4-year-old boy was killed Monday morning and four other people were injured in a crash in northeast Houston.

The single-car crash was reported about 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of Homestead and Little York roads.

"We looked inside of the vehicle. We didn't see anything. We didn't hear anything. So, all of a sudden, we heard a kid saying 'Help, help, help,' screaming for help, saying 'Help my mother,'" said Lawerence Godfrey, a witness to the crash.

According to Houston police, the driver of the car was traveling east on Little York and ran the light at Homestead. The vehicle skidded off the road and hit a light pole.

"Most of all, when I saw that kid, they were saying 'Stay away. Stay away. It's a live wire.' That's when all of that goes out and say 'Hey, if that was my kid, I'd want someone to do the same thing for my kid.' That's when we (sprang) into action. (We) started moving around and started getting the kids out, doing everything we possibly could," Gofrey said.

Police said the boy was taken to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, police said. That person’s condition was not immediately released.

Police said three other children who were in the car were taken to Texas Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash is still under investigation, police said.
