Family fights to get injured teen home after major crash in Mexico

HOUSTON – A Houston area family is working to find the money to get their loved one back home after a violent crash that injured several people in Mexico.

Daisy Parra's sister and extended family are all recovering after a truck they were in crashed in Michoacan, Mexico.

"Everyone was just laying on the ground," Parra said.

Nine family members were in the truck on the way back to Houston when the Parras' uncle lost control and came within inches of hitting a building.

“'Is someone dead?’ That was the first thing that came to my mind. Someone had to have died in that accident,” Parra said. “Once we saw those pictures, we are just so grateful."

Parra said she hasn't gotten much information and is relying on Mexican news outlets for video and details.

Her 18-year-old sister, Odalis, who is a Cy-Falls High student, was in the car and is now in a body cast with serious spine injuries.

"She can’t do anything on her own, she needs 24-hour care and we are told she needs surgery," Parra told Channel 2.

In order to pay for medical costs, including getting the teen from Mexico back to Houston, the family created a Go Fund Me account to help with the rising expenses.
