Family needs help finding man's killer

John Martinez killed in front of home on Oct. 13.

HOUSTON - A family is begging for help to find a man's killer.

Houston police said John Martinez, 45, was shot outside his home on Ashburn near Kopman in southeast Houston around 10 p.m. Oct 13.

Investigators said Martinez pulled into his driveway and three men ambushed him as he got out of his newly-purchased pickup truck.

The men robbed Martinez, shot him and left him for dead on his own doorstep.

His family called 911 after hearing gunshots.

"He loved life and didn't deserve this," said Martinez's wife, Norma. "Please come forward and help us. Because he's not here, we are his voice now."

The day after the killing, police said they found some of his stolen belongings thrown away in the same neighborhood.

"We believe the suspects live in the same area," Officer M.J. Miller said.

Police said they tied the gun used to kill Martinez to another slaying.

After more than a month of investigating, detectives said they don't have any leads.

Relatives said they know that Martinez will never come back, but they want to know who killed him and why.

"If we know who did it, we will have a little peace," said Martinez's daughter, Veronica.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
