EZ Tag system upgrade causes toll road users to see over-charged accounts

HOUSTON – Several Harris County toll road users have contacted Channel 2 saying they were stunned to find hundreds of dollars of charges on their accounts over a matter of a few days.

The Toll Road Authority had a system upgrade from June 8 through June 11, and said there was a delay in posting to accounts while the new system was brought online.

The Authority says it sent notice via email and social media letting customers know about the delayed billing.

A toll authority spokesperson said:

"When toll transactions resumed posting to EZ Tag accounts on June 21, the normal rebill (auto-charge) process was triggered. Depending on the individual's roadway usage, this may mean that more than one account replenishment is triggered this week to reflect the tolls they used in their travels over the last two weeks."

HCTRA encourages anyone having issues with EZ TAG billing to email them at eztagstore@hctra.org.

The authority said they're experiencing a higher than normal response time, but they are committed to taking care of any issues EX Tag users are experiencing.
