Erin Andrews draws strength by working during cancer treatment

HOUSTON – It's no secret Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews has been under an enormous amount of stress with a trial against an accused stalker and major hotel chain.

Now she's dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

"I remember when we got the call and we were in New York and it was Week 3, it was Giants-Redskins and we got the call and (the oncologist) said 'this is bad,'" Andrews recalls. "I said 'this can't happen! This is supposed to be a great year!'"

This Sunday, Andrews will cover the biggest sporting event of her life, working the sidelines during the Super Bowl a week after she went public with her diagnosis.

Remarkably, just two days after receiving treatment in the fall, Andrews was back at work.

"After everything I've been through with my trial I really didn't think you could be as vulnerable as I was through that," she said. "I'm trying to help people with stalking and video voyeurism and now I've got another thing on my shoulders that I'd like to tell women go get checked and if you do have (cervical cancer), there are options for you, it's not a death sentence. I was able to work. Although, I probably shouldn't have but I knew that was the only way I was going to heal so that's why I decided to do it."

Andrews says she is doing fine now and did not need radiation or chemotherapy.

"I know my dad has made comments in the article, made me lose it because it's just, we've been through so much but I can handle it. Now let's hope for a good 2017! Please!" Andrews said.

Andrews said that means not missing anything NFL related because that's where she draws strength. So, even during a health crisis, she was determined to be in Houston this week.

"I'm not sitting at home watching a game," she said. "It's just not happening."
