HOUSTON - Hundreds of people who work in the Galleria area had to find alternative parking Tuesday after the parking garage at 1 Riverway partially collapsed.

The Houston Fire Department was called to the garage on South Post Oak Lane near Riverway just before 8 p.m. Monday night and discovered part of the top floor had collapsed to the level below. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no vehicles were damaged.

Sheila Stulak with Unilev Management Corporation, the company that manages 1 Riverway, described the area that collapsed as a 30x60 square foot area.

Stulak said a structural engineer arrived at the scene at 11 p.m. Monday and cleared the use of half of the garage. However, due to traffic flow issues, management has decided to keep the entire garage closed for the time being.

Employees who work at 1 Riverway Drive are being diverted to nearby parking garages at 2 Riverway Drive and 3 Riverway Drive.
