Early voting surges ahead of Election Day

HOUSTON – Crowds continued to flow in and out of area polling places Sunday as Houstonians cast ballots during early voting.

There was a steady stream of voters at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center, eager and ready to cast a ballot.

"If you just sit at home and don't do nothing, your vote won't count. So, you need to get out and vote," voter Vera Johnson said.

"The lines were fine.  They were long enough for me to be satisfied that people out here are voting, but short enough for me to get out right in time," voter Rickie Bradford said.

Across town, at Lyons Unity Missionary Baptist Church, Democrats held a "Souls to the Polls" event to encourage parishioners to vote.

"We plan on saying that we want all voters.  Whether they are Republicans or Democrats or independents, we want all voters to come out and vote this year," Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said.
