'Dump the Pump,' ride METRO for free

HOUSTON – Instead of driving a car Thursday, METRO is encouraging people to ride public transportation for free.

It's all apart of their 'Dump the Pump Day,' a nationwide movement showing how public transportation can save riders money in their cities.

Rides on METRO buses, park and ride and METRORail in the Houston region are all free all day.

METRO street teams will be at park and ride lots and transit centers to help first-time riders and to thank current customers.

Prizes will be given to customers every hour starting at 7 a.m. to show appreciation.

The free METRO services last until 4:30 a.m. Friday.
