HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A drunk driving crash in northwest Harris County on Saturday left one person dead.

According to police, the accident happened around 3 a.m. when a driver, identified as Salvador Lopez, traveling outbound on Hwy 290 near FM 1960 failed to stay in a single lane and slammed into the concrete divider separating the main lanes from the exit ramp.

Neither of the occupants were wearing seat belts and authorities believe they were both under the influence.

The female passenger died at the scene and Lopez was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Officers said Lopez was tested at the hospital to confirm intoxication.

The tests showed Lopez was under the influence at the time of the accident. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
