Driver dies after crashing into pole on Highway 59

Cause of crash under investigation

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a crash early Sunday morning on Highway 59 in which one driver died.

Police said a woman was driving a silver Nissan Maxima at a high rate of speed on the Southwest Freeway around 3 a.m. Sunday. Another vehicle driving at a high rate of speed struck the Maxima, causing it to run off the road and hit a pole.

The 20-year-old woman who was driving the Nissan died at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

The driver of the other vehicle did not stop and is still on the run, police said.
