HOUSTON - Police said a driver won't face charges after he hit a pedestrian in north Houston.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday near the North Freeway and Rankin Road.

According to reports, a man tried to walk across Rankin when the light was green.

Drivers swerved to avoid him, police said, but one driver couldn't get out of the way fast enough and hit the pedestrian.

He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver stopped and waited for police to arrive; no charges were filed.
