HOUSTON - A driver was killed after crashing into an 18-wheeler in northwest Harris County, deputies said.

The accident happened around 10 Wednesday night at a truck stop near FM 529 and Wright.

Apparently a driver speeding west on FM 529 failed to yield to an 18-wheeler that was backing out of the truck stop and slammed into its side.

"We had an 18-wheeler that was exiting the Chevron gas station, [...] and at the same time we had an individual in an SUV that was traveling westbound, allegedly at a high rate of speed," said Sergeant Mike Harvey with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "He failed to stop [...] and ran into the 18-wheeler.  His vehicle became entangled in the 18-wheeler, and he was trapped inside."

The driver died at the scene.  His name was not immediately released.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
