HOUSTON - The driver accused in a fatal 'swangin' crash appeared in court Wednesday.
Roberto Reyes, Jr. is charged with intoxication manslaughter. On Sunday night, investigators said Reyes was driving a Honda Civic and swangin' with another car as they drove in the 10600 block of Airline Road in the Greenspoint area.
Swangin' is a term used to describe a car that is swerving in and out of multiple lanes of traffic on a roadway.
Deputies said Reyes, 18, lost control and swerved off the road. The car slammed into a fence and then rolled over.
Fernanda Macias, 15, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Three others who were in the car with Reyes and Macias sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators said Reyes failed field sobriety tests and he did not have a license. Deputies at the scene reported that a marijuana pipe and scale were found in the vehicle.
In court Wednesday, Reyes posted a $50,000 bond with restrictions. He is not allowed to drive and must have a breathalyzer on his vehicle even though he is not allowed to drive. He also has a curfew.
