DPS trooper involved in shooting, officials say

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was involved in a shooting in Brazoria County, officials say. 

DPS troopers said the shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at FM 521 near County Road 24.

According to DPS Sergeant Craig Cummings, a trooper was running radar along FM 521 when he noticed a car speeding.

The trooper pulled the car over and inside was a 22-year-old man who had an outstanding warrant for resisting arrest, officials said. 

According to authorities, the man attempted to run, but the trooper caught up to him. 

Officials said the man grabbed the trooper's Taser and attempted to shoot him with it, but the trooper pulled his gun and shot the man before he could discharge the Taser.

The trooper was not injured.

The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition. 

The road remains shut down.
